Milestones

In 2006 we celebrated our 75th anniversary! We’ve come a long way since 1931, but we’ve always been a community-based organization committed to the communities we serve.

1931
VNA of Riverside County, Inc. was established and funded by the Junior Aide of Riverside, now known as the Junior League of Riverside, Inc. Our service area was the area of the City of Riverside.

1948
Community funding for services was increased through the Community Chest, the predecessor of what we know today as the United Way. We remain a United Way member agency today in 6 of our 7 branch offices.

1960
The Junior League withdrew their funding of the Agency, and we became a separate incorporated agency.

1965
Medicare certification and State Licensure was obtained.

1976
Our name was changed to the Visiting Nurse Association of the Inland Counties to more accurately reflect our service area that now included San Bernardino County in addition to Riverside County.

1989
Our Victorville office received certification to provide hospice, the first of our offices to offer hospice care to persons with a terminal illness.

2005
We assumed operations of The Mourning Star Center, located in Palm Desert, a unique community service program serving grieving children, ages 3-18 years. The center has since expanded to Victorville to serve children of the high desert.

Today, we employ more than 850 employees who work from 7 clinical branch offices located in Riverside, Palm Desert, Yucca Valley, Banning, Victorville, Barstow and Murrieta.

All offices provide both home health and hospice care, and most of the offices have specialized care programs that include Mental Health services, Maternal Infant Care programs, Infusion Therapy, Orthopedic Programs and Pediatric Hospice Care services. We are recognized as the preferred provider of these services for most commercial insurances, in addition to serving Medicare and MediCal recipients.
